News and general information

What time does school start and finish?

School starts at 9.00 am and finishes at 3.15pm.  The doors open at 8.50 a.m.

What is the school website address?

Couldn’t be easier its www.offleyweb.org.

What’s happening with the school playground?

Have a look on the website for new developments. Letters are also being sent out via the PTA. Exciting stuff. This is a very important initiative for the school and for the children.

Do you have rules for behaviour?

Yes and the rules are reinforced with the children regularly. Following our meetings on behaviour last term we agreed to have 4 school rules.  These will be in evidence around the school and are:

  • We are always kind and helpful to everyone.
  • We always walk in school.
  • We always take care of the school and everything in it.
  • We are always polite to other people

Each individual teacher will decide on the class rules that are pertinent to their children.  Some might use the ‘Golden Rules’ or a version of them.

When is the best time to speak to my child’s teacher?

Your child’s teacher will be happy to talk to you at the beginning (briefly) or the end of the day. It is appreciated if contact with the class teacher at the start of the day is kept to a minimum.   The best time to talk is at the end of the day.

If you think you need more time with the teacher please don’t hesitate to telephone or ask the teacher for an appointment school.

What is the school office number?

01270 763 956

School Dinners

Who do you make cheques payable to for school dinners?

Cheques for school dinners only should be made payable to Cheshire County Council.

When do I need to pay for school dinners?

It is important that parents/carers who pay for school meals weekly do so on the first day of each school week by cash or cheque in a sealed envelope.  Late payments give unnecessary additional work to our school secretaries.

You can pay by the month, half term or term. Whichever suits you. Please mark your envelope clearly with your child’s name, class and the period for which you are paying.

You can deduct, from the next payment, the daily rate for any time your child misses their school dinner through absence or because they are on a school trip.

If you forget please let the office know and bring the money in as soon as possible.

How much are school dinners?

School dinners and Cheshire Cat sandwiches are currently £1.65 per day.

Can we change dinners to sandwiches?

During the summer terms we may offer a choice of dinners or prepared sandwiches. You can change from one to the other, but we need a week’s notice of a change either way. It makes it easier for us if your child can stick to all dinners or all sandwiches for the week.

Illness and medicines

Who do I need to call if my child is sick?

The easiest thing to do is to telephone the school office between 9.00 and 9.15 and let the school secretary know the name of you child, their class and how long they are likely to be off school. If you do not know how long they are likely to be off – just keep us informed – an email or phone call will be fine. It is important that we are aware first thing in the morning if your child is not coming into school.

In line with the school’s Attendance Policy we will contact you if you do not contact us first.

Can I send medicine into school?

If your child is well enough to come to school, but requires regular medicine please discuss this with the Headteacher.

No medicines will be administered without written consent.  It is the responsibility of the parent/carer to hand over the medicine at the beginning of the day to Mrs. Condliffe and collect it at the end.  No medicine will be given to the child to take home.

Uniform

Does my child need to wear a tie?

Reception children are encouraged not to wear ties. Children in years 1 and 2 are increasingly not wearing ties, but are welcome to do so if they wish.

Do I need to name everything?

Name everything that a child could remove during the normal school day. Children are encouraged to store and look after their possessions, but mix ups do happen. Jumpers, sweatshirts, coats, dresses, trousers, shoes and shirts should have the child’s name in them.

Where do I get items of school uniform?

The staff in the school office are able to provide or order items of uniform for sale such as sweatshirts, jackets, ties and PE shirts as required.

What is the school PE kit?

The school simply asks that children are provided with shorts and a T shirt – any colour. Pumps are required for Years 1 and 2. The kit should be kept in a bag at school and taken home for washing regularly – assume that they will be used three times a week.

If you wish you can buy a blue badged school PE shirt. Some of the proceeds of this will go to the PTA.

Water and snacks

Where do I get extra water bottles?

Water bottles can be purchased for 30 pence from the school. Please ask your class teacher.

What can my child bring in for a snack?

Ideally fruit, vegetables or cheese. Please do not send in anything containing nuts and  preferably no sandwiches. No sweets, chocolate, cakes or crisps. Healthy eating is an important aspect of our school life. Children are provided with a piece of fruit at afternoon break free of charge.

Getting involved

How can I get involved in the school?

There are a number of ways you can get involved and we would be really pleased to see you. Parents and carers are encouraged to join in:

  • Social events which are organised throughout the year for parents and families
  • After school film evenings
  • As classroom or administrative helpers during the school day
  • The PTA
  • Parents evenings
  • Sports days
  • Festival events and productions
  • School trips
  • Playground work
  • Anything else you can think of.

How do I contact a parent Governor?

Parent governors photos are displayed on this website and the board in the front entrance.

You can telephone the office or email admin@offleyinfant.cheshire.sch.uk and your email or call will be forwarded on to the appropriate governor. They will be pleased to hear from you.

You can also contact the chair of governors at the following email address chair@offleyinfant.cheshire.sch.uk

School trips

How many school trips do the children go on?

This varies from year to year, but typically one per term. At the end of year 2 children can go on an overnight trip usually to Burwardsley Outdoor Centre. See photos of school trips on the website Gallery.

Do we have to pay for school trips?

School trips add enormously to the education of our children and we ask for a voluntary contribution for the trips. This has to be voluntary and we will support those who do not feel they can pay. We make every effort to minimise the cost for parents and carers and really appreciate all the support we get for these ventures.

Do the children wear seat belts on school buses?

Yes absolutely.

Bringing things into school

Can my child bring toys to school?

Preferably not. Things can get lost and broken and this causes upset.

What and when are the ‘show and tell’ sessions?

Children are encouraged to bring in things that they have made, drawn, photographed or created. They will talk about these to other members of the class in ‘show and tell’ sessions. These are an important part of the children’s development and interesting for members of the class. Your child should give anything brought in to the teacher for safe keeping. Please talk to a teacher in advance if you want to bring in anything large or alive!  Your class teacher or your child will be able to tell you on which day of the week show and tell sessions are arranged.
